Year 7 Monster Ball

Thursday 3rd November 2011

Year 7 pupils at Abersychan School enjoyed a fantastic evening to celebrate all things spooky as part of Halloween. All money made was donated to the Friends of Abersychan PTA which donates money to the school. In the past money has been put towards benches, a canopy for the yard and classroom equipment.

Abersychan’s Main Hall was transformed into a scary cavern complete with a ‘chop shop’ backdrop, cackling witches, hanging skeletons and some very realistic ‘stocks’. There was a tuck shop full of yummy treats, a hotdog stand and even glow sticks and bracelets on sale.

The Ball took place from 6pm until 8pm and pupils were asked to come along in fancy dress. The standard of the costumes was incredible. Pupils had made a huge effort and there were a wide range of characters haunting the Main Hall. A massive thank you to all the parents and carers who helped transform the pupils.

Pupils enjoyed getting their photograph taken in the ‘stocks’ and with some of our creepy decorations. A CD of all 200 photographs taken will now be made available for Year 7 to buy. The proceeds will also go towards the Friends of Abersychan.

Year 7 voted as they arrived for their Halloween King and Queen. Staff had a tough job choosing the best fancy dress. The pupils voted Callum Burns (7CO) and Ellie Whittaker (7CO) as their Halloween King and Queen. They were presented with a crown and tiara, certificate and ‘Love2Shop’ voucher. Fiona John (7RH) was chosen as best fancy dress thanks to her shocking ‘zip’ decorating her cheek! It was very realistic and really impressive. Fiona also got a certificate and ‘Love2Shop’ voucher.

All pupils seemed to have a wonderful night and the staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Friends of Abersychan would like to thank all parents, carers and pupils for the great fancy dress costumes; staff for their supervision at the Ball and donation of decorations and the Friends of Abersychan for running the tuck shop and hotdog stand. A special thank you goes out to a past pupil, Elliot Watkins, who gave up a Thursday night to entertain us with some rocking tunes. He had all the modern hits and Year 7 loved dancing all night.

We can’t wait for the Monster Ball 2012!
