Abersychan School Prize Evening: Thursday 6th October, 2011.

The pupils staff and special guests enjoyed our annual prize evening a great deal this year. The guest speaker was ex-pupil and successful actress, Lisa Diveney, who gave an inspirational speech about pursuing your dreams. The school choir also performed an inspirational set, which included ‘Something Inside so Strong’ and Higher and Higher.’

Year 10 received their subject prizes, with Ceri-Anne Boucher, Olivia De Sousa Costa and Christopher Barne being nominated in a range of subject areas. Olivia De Sousa Costa also won the Outstanding Year 10 pupil award, while Martin Young won the SNRB Progress Prize. T

he Terry Morgan Sports Personality prize was won by Josh Lewis, while Eleanor Roberts scooped the Friends of Abersychan Outstanding Sports Prize in recognition of the fact that she recently represented Wales in netball.

The Year 11 Year Tutor’s Prize was won by Beth Roberts and Lauren Merriman won the Progress Award. Sommer Lewis won the Pontypool Rotary Club Service Above Self Award. Jessica Whiting and Zoe Bendall won the inaugural Jim Goodhall Award for Science, which was launched in memorial to our recently deceased ex-science teacher. His widow, Pat Goodhall made a very emotional speech in remembrance of Jim and his passion for teaching in Abersychan.

The achievements of all of our GCSE pupils were recognised. The prize evening remains a highlight of the calendar at Abersychan School. It is wonderful to celebrate the success of so many talented young people.
